About Claire

You don’t need fixing. You need the right support.
I’m Claire Cross, a clinical hypnotherapist in Nottingham, and I’ve been working as a therapist for professionals dealing with stress, anxiety, burnout and confidence issues since 2007. My practice is called Make Positive Changes because that’s what I help my clients to do, using evidence-based therapy that gets to the root of what’s holding you back.
Before setting up in private practice, I spent thirteen years working as a mental health specialist in the NHS, gaining experience with a wide range of issues including stress, anxiety and depression. I’ve also worked at Nottingham Trent University providing therapy and counselling services.
I know what works – and what doesn’t.
My Approach
I’m client-centred and holistic in my approach, which means I focus on you as a whole person, not just the symptoms you’re presenting with. The mind and body are inextricably linked – one affects the other – and there’s considerable interplay between the emotional and the physical.
Treating one without addressing the other rarely works in the long-term.
I work in an integrated way, drawing on clinical hypnotherapy, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Timeline Therapy, the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), EMDR and person-centred counselling. I don’t follow a rigid method because people aren’t rigid. The techniques I use are tailored to your individual needs, with the aim of helping you achieve a positive outcome in the shortest possible time.
This isn’t about finding yourself or living your best life. It’s about sorting out what’s making you miserable so you can function properly again – sleeping better, feeling more confident, making decisions without second-guessing yourself, and enjoying your work.
Qualifications and accreditations
I’m a clinical hypnotherapist based in Nottingham and a fully accredited member of the General Hypnotherapy Register, National Council of Hypnotherapy and Complementary National Healthcare Council.
I hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred and Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy and I’m a BACP registered therapist (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I’m also a Master Practitioner of NLP and Timeline Therapy, a Master NLP Coach, having trained with Steve Kay at Quality Culture, East Midlands, and I have an accredited Advanced Diploma in Coach Training.
I’m fully insured and abide by a strict code of ethics and confidentiality.

Why I do this
I’m passionate about supporting people through their personal difficulties, challenges and life transitions. I’ve seen too many talented, capable professionals struggle in silence because they think they should be able to handle everything on their own – or because they’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t work.
You don’t have to keep struggling. With the right support and the right techniques, change is absolutely possible. I’ve watched clients go from lying awake at 3am worrying about everything to sleeping soundly. From avoiding meetings to presenting confidently to the board. From feeling stuck and burnt out to getting the promotion they wanted and rediscovering why they loved their job in the first place.
That’s what keeps me doing this work.
